Returns the raw canonical combining class from the configured native HarfBuzz Unicode provider, in the range zero through 255

The Unicode data version follows the loaded HarfBuzz runtime; this function does not substitute a placement-specific recoding for Hebrew, Arabic, or other script classes

Supplementary Unicode scalars are accepted, while surrogate values and values above U+10FFFF raise an exception

The optional token is polled before dependency initialization and after the native query; cancellation raises the existing EHPDFOperationCancelled

A combining class does not equal a line-break class: double combining marks can have a nonzero combining class while their line-break class prohibits a break

Cross-style mark positioning uses these classes with actual glyph bounds when no matching attachment anchors are available
